1. Preparation and Priming (The Foundation)

This is the most critical phase for a long-lasting seal.
  • Substrate Inspection and Repair: The deck surface (wood, concrete, etc.) must be clean, dry, and structurally sound. Any necessary repairs to the decking, flashing, or joints are completed.
  • Surface Cleaning: The deck is thoroughly cleaned to remove all dust, dirt, grease, and loose material.
  • Detail and Joint Treatment: All potential high-leak areas—like seams, deck joints, fasteners, and internal/external corners—are specially sealed using a base coat of acrylic flashing compound or Foundation Coat embedded with small strips of the system's reinforcing fabric.
  • Priming: A specific primer is applied to the deck surface to ensure maximum adhesion of the liquid coating, particularly over materials like plywood, metal flashings, or existing asphalt.

2. Application of the Reinforced Membrane (The Core)

This phase creates the actual seamless, monolithic waterproof layer.
  • Foundation Coat (First Layer): A layer of the liquid acrylic Foundation Coat is applied to a manageable section of the deck.
  • Embedding the Fabric: While the first layer is still wet (the "wet-on-wet" method), the Reinforcing Fabric (a non-woven polyester) is immediately unrolled and embedded into the coating. It must be smoothed out from the center to remove all wrinkles, creases, and trapped air. Overlaps between fabric rolls must meet minimum specified widths (e.g., 4 to 6 inches).
  • Saturation Coat (Second Layer): A second layer of the Foundation Coat is applied immediately over the fabric, fully saturating and encapsulating it. The goal is to make the fabric invisible beneath the coating.

3. Finish and Protection (The Topcoat)

Once the reinforced membrane is dry and walkable, the final protective layers are applied.
  • Finish Coat Application: One or more layers of the highly durable, UV-resistant Finish Coat (also known as the Top Coat) are applied. These coats are typically applied perpendicular to the previous coat for even coverage.
  • Curing: The entire system is allowed to fully cure according to manufacturer specifications before being subjected to foot traffic or exposure to water.
  • Optional Traffic Coat: For areas with heavy foot traffic (like balconies), a specialized, often textured, anti-skid coating called Traffic Coat may be applied over the final Finish Coat for extra wear resistance and safety.
This process results in a single, fully-adhered, seamless membrane across the entire deck surface, including all edges and penetrations.
