The problem
Goodyear Airport was experiencing roof leaks caused by ponding water on its 75,000 square foot metal hangar, and recoated the roof with GacoFlex S20 rather than replacing it.
Ponding water on a large-span metal hangar roof was causing leaks. The building also has a 35,000 square foot built-up portion, so any solution had to work across two very different substrates at once.
Ponding is exactly where most coating chemistries fail — acrylics re-emulsify under standing water. Silicone does not, which is why it is the system specified when water sits on a roof for days after rain.
The outcome
The airport recoated rather than replaced, achieving outstanding results while limiting cost, and can remain confident the roof will stay leak-free with a 10-year labor and materials warranty behind it.
